About

The people, the body of work, and why Clover ERA exists.

Clover ERA exists because three people watched the same retention failure repeat across hundreds of organisations. Companies invest in programmes that never change daily manager behaviour. The pattern repeats because the data that would change it stays invisible. Clover ERA makes that data visible.

Section 01The body of work

Three books, one thesis.

Published
2024 — 2026

The books document the same observation Clover ERA was built to address: that retention failure is the visible symptom of a deeper invisibility, and that the daily behaviours that would prevent it are not changing because the data that would change them is not being collected.

The Trillion Dollar Problem (2024) named the financial scale, and introduced the CLOVER framework. Already Gone (2026) named the human scale. Silent Degradation (forthcoming, 2026) names the structural scale.

The full books page documents methodology, reviews, and where to read them.

Section 02Who we are

Three people. Two brothers, one operator. Twenty-plus years each, on the same problem.

Clive Hays

Clive Hays

Co-Founder & CEO

Twenty years inside large organisations spanning technology, financial services, and industrial sectors, including ten years at Fortune 500 companies. Clive has seen the same pattern repeat across hundreds of organisations: companies overlook the one productivity multiplier they have most direct control over. That multiplier is the manager. That pattern became the foundation for the CLOVER framework.

Co-author of The Trillion Dollar Problem (2024) and Already Gone (2026).

Based in Scotland. Prefers direct conversation over corporate speak.

Neil Hays

Neil Hays

Co-Founder & CFO

Clive's brother. That matters. This isn't a business partnership built on a pitch deck. It's built on twenty years of arguing about the same problems over Sunday lunch.

Twenty years in large organisations managing operations and optimising processes, including ten years at Fortune 500 companies. Flow rates, cycle times, capacity utilisation. All measurable. All improvable.

Co-author of The Trillion Dollar Problem (2024) and Already Gone (2026).

Based in Scotland. Treats every problem as a flow problem until proven otherwise.

Chad Williams

Chad Williams

Co-Founder

Over 20 years building and operating delivery and workflow systems across banking and enterprise environments. Programme offices, operating model design, large-scale coordination across teams. Chad makes the infrastructure work at the scale where most platforms break.

Operating-model architect for Clover ERA's platform infrastructure. Two decades of programme-office and large-scale delivery experience across banking and enterprise environments.

Believes most platform failures are coordination failures dressed up as technology problems.

If the body of work is familiar, the diagnostic is free.

The Manager Gap Index is the live diagnostic that produces a single score and a six-layer cost estimate from the same six dimensions the books document. It takes ten minutes. Take the Manager Gap Index →
